The Client

Creating a future where every child with cancer can survive and thrive

Children's Cancer CoLab unites Australia's leading researchers, clinicians, and healthcare professionals to fast-track groundbreaking discoveries from the lab to the clinic. Their courageous, community-focused approach aims to deliver real-world, transformative impact for our youngest cancer patients, across Australia and beyond. As an independent charity committed to collaborative research, they are supported by two independent and highly esteemed Scientific Advisory Committees to ensure they fund only the most promising multidisciplinary projects that can deliver transformative outcomes for childhood cancer patients. By bringing together experts from across institutions and disciplines, Children's Cancer CoLab is helping to create a future where every child with cancer can survive and thrive.

Every child deserves a bright future beyond cancer.

Building on the legacy of VPCC, Children's Cancer CoLab required more than just a new name and visual identity—they needed a comprehensive brand and digital strategy that would honour past achievements while clearly articulating their evolved mission.

Across every touchpoint, this project needed to clearly communicate their purpose, build and maintain trust and credibility with stakeholders, and facilitate meaningful connections across the childhood cancer research ecosystem. Our work involved creating a strong new identity, while carefully managing the transition through considered stakeholder engagement and communications that championed the efforts that brought them to this point.

The Challenge

Australia has one of the highest rates of childhood cancer in the world. Despite advancements in treatment, cancer kills more Australian children every week than any other disease. This is a heartbreaking reality that Children's Cancer CoLab are determined to change.

Children's Cancer CoLab was formed to address these challenges through strategic funding and multi-institutional collaboration, but needed a compelling brand identity and digital presence to effectively unite diverse stakeholders and communicate their patient-focused investment approach.

Our approach

Working alongside the Children's Cancer CoLab team, we translated their vision of accelerated research through collaboration into a comprehensive brand and communications framework. We began by developing a distinctive name and positioning that clearly articulated their unique role as a funder of collaborative research within the childhood cancer ecosystem. The transition from VPCC to Children's Cancer CoLab was carefully managed with stakeholder engagement strategies that honoured the organisation's legacy while embracing its evolved mission.

We created a visual identity that balances scientific rigour with accessibility and hope, acknowledging both the serious nature of their work and the optimistic future they're working toward. The website and digital systems were designed to serve multiple audiences—from researchers and clinicians to families and supporters—while clearly communicating their five strategic Impact Programs and commitment to transparent, accountable research funding. Throughout the process, we focused on creating assets that would not only launch the organisation effectively but support its growth and evolution over time.

The impact

The new brand identity and digital presence for Children's Cancer CoLab effectively showcases their unique collaborative approach while highlighting the strength of their network across eight leading Victorian research, clinical, and academic institutions. Their newly launched website serves as a powerful platform that clearly communicates both their patient-focused investment philosophy and their commitment to scientific excellence.

By thoughtfully presenting their five strategic Impact Programs and creating intuitive pathways for different stakeholders, the digital experience supports Children's Cancer CoLab's mission to break down silos between research disciplines and institutions. With these strong brand and digital foundations now in place, the organisation is positioned to amplify awareness of their vital work, attract additional partners, new funding opportunities, and ultimately direct more resources to the collaborative initiatives that will create transformative outcomes for childhood cancer patients and their families across Australia and beyond.
